Google’s “Nexus One” test phone Confirmed; details surface

We all know about “the google phone” by now. But, for those who don’t, rumors and reports of google giving its employees a phone to test out have been surfacing the past week. Well, google has confirmed the existence of the phone, but not much else.

Google's 'Nexus One' Phone: Details Emerge

Look in the reflection on the phone, looks like it was taken with an iphone. Ironic

Though not confirmed yet, the google phone is going to be named “Nexus One.” However, names like passion are still rumored to be the true name of the phone. Claims are already being made that the iPhone may finally have a real run for its money. In my opinion, Android has all the potential to beat out the iPhone, but the thing that has set the iPhone apart in the past and may work out again is the hardware. The touchscreen on the iphone has not yet been matched, and I think that the touchscreen is the one thing that gives the iPhone such an advantage. So, if google can pull that off, i think they will have a pretty good chance at getting some iPhone users to switch.

Back to the google phone though. It is said that it will run on T-Mobile 3G, but google will sell it unlocked without any carrier. For those who aren’t tech-savy, unlocked means that they would be able to use any serviceprovider.

Specs

Specs are hard to come by, but based on reports byEngadget and others, this device will probably have a screen slightly longer than the iPhone’s (just under 5 inches), OLED display, trackball, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity, and a microSD expansion slot. The device is also believed to be thinner than the iPhone.

Just Testing or Prelaunch?

Rumors are suggesting the device would be launched by Google in early January, but there’s also speculation the Nexus One/Google phone could just be a test device for trying out the latest Android platform. It’s also possible that Google could be developing the hardware and software, but wouldn’t produce or brand the device. Instead, the company could license its design out to other manufacturers, a very Microsoft-like move. ( I don’t like Microsofy)

In my opinion this seems to be a cool phone, it looks cool and android is a good Mobile OS. If it comes out before i get a new phone, i’ll consider buying it, but I am set on the droid at this point. But, what do you think? Is this “Google Phone” the real deal? If so, will you be buying one?

Facebook prank backfires after hundreds of tributes pour in for ‘dead’ man who was alive and well

Facebook prank backfires after hundreds of tributes pour in for ‘dead’ man who was alive and well | Mail Online.

I honestly think this is pretty hilarious that someone was stupid enough to do this, not the actual prank though, it wasn’t that funny

Tributes: Dan Evans was forced to reassure hundreds of friends after a Facebook page said that he had died

Tributes: Dan Evans was forced to reassure hundreds of friends after a Facebook page said that he had died

A man who was declared dead by a friend on Facebook has been forced to reassure his hundreds of friends that he is alive and well.

Tributes to , 23, flooded in on an online memorial page, which claimed he had died in a freak work accident.

Daniel Kidd, also 23, invited friends to join the group, and within a few hours more than 200 people had posted heartfelt memories of Mr Evans.

His 21-year-old brother Michael, who is travelling in , was forced to call home to check that his sibling was alive.

After two days the group had expanded to 600 people who left condolences to Dan’s family.

One wrote: ‘Dan RIP, you were the centre of attention at school and it was great to know you.’

Another wrote: ‘Sorry to hear the tragic news, my thoughts are with you and your family.’

Mr Evans, an electrician from Newton Abbot, Devon, was horrified to discover how far the prank had gone and forced his friend to shut down the page.

He has since been telephoning and emailing as many people as possible to reassure them that he is not dead.

He said: ‘This is completely ridiculous – I’m definitely not dead.

‘My friend is a massive practical joker but this is the worst thing he’s done to me.

‘When I first saw it and realised he had only invited a couple of friends I thought it was a bit funny but it spiralled way out of control really quickly.

Fake: Daniel Kidd set up a memorial site for his friend Dan Evans as a joke – but the prank got out of hand after hundreds of friends paid tribute

‘Soon people were writing on the wall with real memories about me and passing on their condolences to my family – it was awful.

‘My brother is travelling in Australia and he rang home as soon as he saw it to find out what was going on.

‘I kept trying to put messages on the wall saying I was not dead, but because it was Daniel’s group he could delete them straight away.

Prank: Daniel Kidd was forced to delete the web page by a furious Mr Evans, who is alive and well

‘It was weird seeing what people wrote about me but I felt terrible for them – it went much too far.

‘I told him to take the group off and eventually he agreed. I had to go round to his house and make him though, otherwise he never would have done it.’

Mr Kidd, a website designer, titled the page: ‘A memorial site dedicated to Dan Evans, or Evs, as he was affectionately known, who sadly passed away last week when he was electrocuted in a work accident.’

He was the first to add his message of condolence, writing: ‘Thanks for all the memories brother. I am sorry for causing you that asthma attack in Year Seven.

‘Safe journey mate, you are now in that church in the sky. I will never forget you.’

He said: ‘I honestly don’t even know what inspired me to do it in the first place.

‘Dan and I have been best friends for years but our friends from school have started to drift apart and we hadn’t seen some of them for ages – I just thought this would be funny.

‘I set the group up and only invited six or seven of our closest mates. I told them it was a joke and asked them to play along.

‘But they must have invited other people, because soon all these people were joining and writing on the wall.

‘I said Dan had been electrocuted at work and I suppose it sounded quite believable.

‘After a few days there were about 600 messages from people and it started to get out of hand. In the end Dan made me delete it. I’m really sorry.’

Site of the Day

Today’s Cool Site…

Skiing with Santa

Santa works hard to deliver presents to all the good little boys and girls. So, he deserves some fun in his down time.

What does Santa like to do in his time off? Given the snow at the North Pole, I’d say skiing is a safe bet.

At today’s Cool Site, you can play a skiing game with Santa. The idea behind Santa Ski Jump is simple.

You must help Santa use a ski jump to collect stars from a Christmas tree. If he gets enough, he goes on to the next level. You get several tries.

Success is more difficult than it sounds. You must set the skiing style and speed. If you’re off, Santa won’t get enough stars to advance.

I’m sure you’ll have as much fun as I did playing this game!

Guitar Hero Christmas Lights!

People can tend to get carried away with Christmas light decorations, but this is something else. In the clip above, you can see the home of former Disney Imagineer and special effects specialist Ric Turner, which he decked out himself for the holiday. And it appears he’s also a Guitar Hero fan, because his house actually lets you play the game by following the lights on his garage door.

Turner offered up a detailed explanation of how exactly he built this wonderment to Make Online (via Kotaku), which involved using “7 light controllers from Light-O-Rama built from kits to control 21,268 lights and LEDs. Each controller has 16 outputs and 2-3 TTL level control inputs that are used by the game system to fire different programmed light sequences depending on what happens in the game.”

And for those of us who barely understood that, here’s a more digestible explanation of how this work: “When you play, you watch only the Christmas lights, but the audio you hear is from the Wii, so your flubs are broadcast for all to hear (people in cars can tune 99.1 and crank it up as loud as they want),” Turner explained. “When we are not playing, a separate version of the program that has the audio from the recorded game plays with the lights as a loop.”

Tweeting Sex Bed

Ok, so some guy went in his friends bed and put pressure sensors in it. His buddy had just gotten married, so everytime him and his new wife get on the job, the bed will send it to twitter. It says how long it lasted, how furious the sex was, and comments on how well they did.
So basically, the bed knows what their doing, and everybody on twitter knows to. Right now they are just over 9,000 followers. I think this is pretty cooL!

Google Releases Experimental Phone to Employees – PC World Business Center

Google has handed out a new mobile phone running its Android software to some employees, stirring another wave of speculation that the oft-rumored Google Phone is real.

In a blog post on Saturday morning, Google said the phones are being distributed so that workers can experiment with new mobile features. It did not say the device will be a Google-branded phone.

But in a Twitter message earlier, a Google employee who said she has the phone referred to it as a “Google phone,” fuelling the latest speculation.

Since even before Google unveiled Android, onlookers wondered if the search giant would release its own phone. Instead, it released an open source operating system that other hardware vendors can use to make phones.

In the Google blog post, Mario Queiroz, a vice president of product management, said the company gave the phone to employees as a way to test new technologies.

“We recently came up with the concept of a mobile lab, which is a device that combines innovative hardware from a partner with software that runs on Android to experiment with new mobile features and capabilities, and we shared this device with Google employees across the globe,” he wrote. “This means they get to test out a new technology and help improve it.”

He said he could not share specific details about the product.

The post appeared to be a response to a Twitter message posted by a Google employee Friday evening, who said she had the phone. The post, first reported by TechCrunch, sparked the new round of speculation.

“ZOMG we had fireworks and we all got the new Google phone. It’s beautiful,” wrote Leslie Hawthorn, a program manager on Google’s open source team.

While the term “Google phone” has been used to describe a device built and branded by Google, many also use the term to refer to any phone running Android. So it was unclear if Hawthorne was talking about a device that will be branded and sold by Google.

A podcast producer for CNET said Friday he had seen one of the phones, adding to the speculation. The hardware is made by HTC and running Android 2.1, the next generation of the software, Jason Howell wrote in a Twitter message. The phones were given to employees unlocked and the one he saw was running on AT&T’s network, he said. Because it is unlocked, workers could also choose to use T-Mobile.

“It was thin. Dare I say as if not a bit thinner than iPhone,” he wrote. The phone used an on-screen keyboard instead of a hardware keyboard. He said Google was expected to reveal more details in the next few days.

Tiger Woods

They have squeezed so much stuff out of one little incident. I think they(the media) Should leave tiger alone. If anybody else in the world crashed their car into the end of the driveway, i don’t think anyone would care too much.

But imagine being tiger woods. The past few years would have been awesome. Being able to get whatever you want, all the money, GOOD publicity, doing something you enjoy. I would sure want to be in his position. Now, imagine being him NOW, you were so well off, then one little incident and every little thing comes back to bite you. Then theorists and the media make it ten times worse, plus your wife is thinking about leaving you. A few weeks ago you’re doing awesome, you’re respected, people like you, everything is GREAT. Then one little incident and everyone hates you, being a celebrity would suck. my dream is to become a musician, but i want to figure out a way to keep some of my privacy.
What do you think, should they leave tiger alone?
